Don't Worry

Did I mention how much Porter is like his dad? I swear both of them can be asleep within seconds.
At night we try to keep Porter awake for the last three hours between his last two feedings - this way he sleeps through the night and so do we! I would like to emphasize the word try, because this task is much more difficult than it seems.
See that sleeping child? Keeping him awake is one of the hardest things to do. Once Porter decides he wants to sleep, nothing can stop him. During those three hours, you can’t take your eyes off of Porter for one second because (I believe) he has a sixth sense that can determine whether someone is watching him or not. Kyle can distract me for five seconds to show me something, and I turn back to Porter; the previously wide-awake and alert child who is now so deep into his REM cycle that only a cold wet washcloth can pull him out of it. Not only do we have to use the cold water to wake him up, but it must be used repeatedly and strategically. If not used enough, the moment the cold washcloth is removed he will fall right back asleep. If we use it too often, however, he gets so used to it that the shock of the cold water is gone and... so is he.

I was stopped at church the other day by one of my neighbors who lives above us, and she apologized for how noisy her family is and how she's always worried they'll "wake the baby".

I told her not to worry.

Why, Porter, do you love it so much?

Every time he is placed on his changing table, this is the reaction that I get. Pure excitement.

It doesn't matter whether he's happy as ever or angry because he's getting hungry, as soon as he's put down on his changing table, smiles automatically follow. I love that they aren't just little smiles either, they are the kind of smiles that could pull a muscle! Such a handsome, happy little boy.

And the combination of red hair, those steele blue eyes and that smile... just takes my breath away.
