Twenty

This past week my Aunt Janet told me about the wonder that is Bountiful Baskets.
I had to try it.
Here's what they sent me home with today.

I can't believe it.
And for only $15.
I felt like I was stealing, and yet they let me drive away.
I'll be doing it again.

Oh, by the way, anybody know what to do with bok choy?

Okay, that looks awesome. I went to the website, but I don't understand. How does it work?

Holy Frijoles! That's a lot of food. I'm super bummed that I couldn't do it this week, but definitely doing it this next week if that's what you got. {Call me Monday to remind me.} And if the only thing you're not so sure about is the bok choy, you made out like a bandit!

Okay, how it works the not-so- condensed version.
There is a "Contribution Schedule" on the home page that tells you start and end times for when you can make "contributions" (aka, buy a basket). It's on a Monday and runs through Tuesday, but the times that you can purchase a basket change, so watch the website. This past week was Mon. from 8pm to Tues. at 11 pm.
A little advice, order early... baskets go quick, and once they're gone, they're gone.
On Monday, go onto the website and login. On the top right column there is a space called "offerings". Right now it says nothing is available. On Monday, that will change and it will say "participate now" under offerings. Click on "participate now" then click on Utah offerings.
At this point you select how many baskets you want to buy, and where you want your pickup to be (it will also tell you here how many baskets are still available at each pickup site). You have to pick up your basket within 20 minutes of your pickup time, or your food is donated to the local fire department, so make sure you'll be able to pick it up at the right time(there are no refunds).
A conventional basket is $15, with a $1.50 handling fee. Or, you can buy an organic basket for $25. (There is also a one time fee for your first basket of $3. So your first basket actually costs $19.50)
At checkout you can also purchase other items if you want... like whole wheat bread (5 loaves/$10), different kinds of cakes (2/$10), or there are sometimes other options for veggies like a Mexican or Italian option where they offer things like avocados, cilantro, eggplants, etc. (for an additional charge).
You do not get to choose what's in your original basket (but that's kind of the fun part).
They do request that you volunteer once every 8 baskets... but all you do is show up an hour earlier than your pickup time and help sort all the food into baskets.
Pickup is on Saturday.
When you show up to get your food, bring a basket with you (I took my big laundry basket, and completely filled it). There will be lines of baskets and you fill up yours with a basket of fruit and one of veggies.
Then run... run like the wind, cause it feels like you're getting away with something you shouldn't.

Holy Cannoli, Chickapen . . . that's a haul. I'll be signing up on Monday, too. My body is already thanking me in advance.

Chelle - A picture tells a thousand words - Your picture has spread the word faster than my testimonial at camp! Good Work and bountiful baskets to all. xoxo Aunt Janet
